OUR LADY OF VICTORIA

About Our Parish

Somwarpet's Our Lady of Victories Church (OLV Church) stands today as a living testimony to our faith, sacrifice, and unity, carrying a grand history of one hundred years. In 1925, our parish's first church was built through the foresight and courage of Fr. M. Noronha. That modest beginning has grown today into a great tree of faith completing a century. Later, in 1964, the foundation stone for the second church was laid by Rev. Mathias Fernandes. With the needs of changing times and a growing congregation, the foundation stone for our current grand church was laid by the most revered Archbishop, Most Rev. Thomas Antony Vazhapilly, in the presence of the then parish priest, Fr. C. Rayappa. This marks a golden chapter in the history of our parish. From 1951 to 2024, a total of 12 parish priests have nurtured this parish and strengthened the faith of the devotees through their dedicated service, teachings, and sacrifice. As a result of their selfless work, our parish today is rich not only spiritually, but also in human values. Celebrating our parish's Centenary this year is a moment of immense pride and gratitude for all of us. Today, our parish functions with 240 families, 9 wards, 20 Pastoral Committee members, 6 Finance Committee members, 30 Legion of Mary members, 33 youth, and 45 senior youth members serving together. Sheila D’Souza faithfully serves as the Secretary of the Pastoral Committee, Baptist as the Secretary of the Finance Committee, and Pramila as the Secretary of the Legion of Mary. Most importantly, to this day, all the faithful of our parish live in harmony, brotherhood, and a spirit of one family. It is our heartfelt prayer that, through the intercession of Our Lady of Victories, our church continues to shine as a beacon of faith from generation to generation, and that our families always grow in love, peace, and unity.
